Saint Paraskevi of Rome, also called Parasceva, was remembered in Christian tradition as a second-century martyr who was arrested more than once for her faith and was eventually beheaded by the Roman governor Tarasius. She was also associated with the healing of eye ailments, and her commemoration falls on July 26. That is why this name returns to the calendar today.
